Here, we'll cover the history of soccer and Australian rules football.

Origins

Christopher Rowley's new book, The Shared Origins of Football, takes us back to the ancient past. Using the skills of a journalist and novelist, Rowley traces the history of football from its ancient origins to the creation of the seven major soccer codes. He demonstrates that the game is very much like ancient ball games. Although football is now a well-organized and popular sport it's origins are not clear.

Origins of modern football codes

There are many sources that have shaped the history of modern football. The sport started with proto-football, which was played by people in a wide variety of cultures. It was similar in its early stages to other games which involved running and kicks. It is believed that the game was first created in England and spread to other parts of the world. It is still possible to find variations of this game in many parts of the world. There are many types of football codes and some may even contain a combination of several.

Soccer's origins

The history of soccer dates back to more than 2500 years ago. During the Han Dynasty, Chinese soldiers used this ball-kicking skill. This game is so old that it has been found on a field in Kyoto, Japan. Greek and Roman soldiers played a similar game to soccer. They used their feet to kick the ball around the ground with their feet. Ultimately, soccer was created as a sport based on these early games.

Origins of Australian Rules Football

Although the origins of Australian Rules Football are unclear, there are similarities to Gaelic football which was first played in 1670, Meath, Ireland. This early version of the game involved the kicking and catching of a ball. In 1875, football was played for the first time in Ireland. This game is thought to have been first played by Irish migrants who came to Australia to play it under the name "Caid".

Origins of association football

In the 19th Century, association football, which combines the best of both soccer and rugby, was very popular. Its simplicity is the key to its popularity. There were 13 rules for the game in 1863. They were passed from the upper class down to the working class, and the middle class. Many players were educated in these fields, and teachers and benefactors encouraged them to play the game.
